Nine out of ten visitors to the Governor’s Mansion vote for the Florida Room as their favorite room!
When the Governor’s Mansion was completed in 1956, this area was an open brick patio which overlooked the mansion gardens. The Florida Room addition of 1985, dating from the tenure of Governor and Mrs. Bob Graham, contains a mixture of floor to ceiling windows, transitional upholstered furniture, antiques, books, seashells and family photographs in abundance.
One of the most unique collection in the mansion is the Miniature Portrait Collection of the First Ladies of Florida, showcased in this room. These small portraits, framed in gold, portray all the First Ladies who have lived in the residence. They were painted by Jane Blake, Jeanne Dunne, and Markissia Touliatos, all highly-recognized Florida miniaturist painters.
