Landscape Development Specialist

Jill Alford joined the Governor’s Mansion staff in April 2011 after a twelve-year hiatus. Jill is an exceptionally skilled horticulturalist who originally served in this capacity from 1988-1999. She brings with her a fundamental love and understanding of plants and landscaping that spills over into teaching, as well. She has taught as an adjunct Biology and Botany Instructor at Tallahassee Community College, and she is currently involved in maintaining a formal, horticultural garden on an historic plantation in neighboring Jefferson County. The renovation of Avalon Plantation, which has occupied the last decade of her professional life, continues to be a source of great pride and accomplishment.

Jill earned her M.S. degree in Biology from Florida State University (Tallahassee, FL) and her B.S. degree in Agriculture from the University of Florida (Gainesville, FL). She is delighted to share her knowledge and provide her expertise, once again, toward the beautification of the mansion grounds.
