State Guest Bedroom

State Guest Bedroom View 1

Visitors to the mansion are amazed to learn that many famous guests, including three American presidents, have spent the night in this official State Guest Bedroom. Among the most famous are President and Mrs. George H.W. Bush, President Jimmy Carter, President Bill Clinton, actress Helen Hayes, ballet dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, and even Mickey Mouse!

The twin canopy beds are late 18th century reproduction bedsteads from the Sheraton period (with the exception of one footboard which is authentic to the period.) In affluent colonial homes of the era, bedsteads (bedframes) were constructed to support richly-worked textiles. Often these bedsteads, with their unique fittings and hangings, were meant to enclose the bed entirely, providing comfort from drafts and protection on a cold winter night.
