Grand Piano

Grand Piano

The Steinway & Sons Grand Piano in the State Reception Room is a prized addition to our mansion. Acquired during the term of Governor Jeb Bush in May 2003, the piano was a gift to honor the first lady's advocacy efforts on behalf of outstanding Florida students of the arts. The gift coincided with Steinway's 150th anniversary as an American manufacturer of some of the world's finest musical instruments.

The Governor's Mansion Foundation, in consultation with Mrs. Columba Bush, selected a classic ebony finish for the new piano. Governor Bush said the gift was quite possibly the mansion's most significant furniture acquisition in recent years.

The Baldwin grand piano that was formerly in the State Reception Room was relocated to the Museum of Florida History in the R.A. Gray Building, a few blocks away from the mansion. The Baldwin piano was acquired in 1985 during the Graham administration. Today it remains a valuable addition to the programs of the state history museum.
